Tonight, alt-rock/new wave pioneer (with The Modern Lovers) Jonathan Richman comes to The Camel. Doors are at 8, show starts at 9, tix are $13 in advance, $15 at the door. Here's Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers, "Pablo Picasso":
Also, tonight at Strange Matter, noise pop band Jeff The Brotherhood will perform. It's $10 to get in. Doors open at 9, the show starts at 9:30 with openers Heavy Cream & Palindrone. Jeff the Brotherhood's new album, "Hypnotic Nights" will be out July 17 so I'm sure you'll hear some cuts from that. Here's "Bummer"from their last album:
Down in Powhatan tonight, The Temptations bring that Motown sound as part of the Powhatan Live series at Powhatan Courthouse. Gates open at 6, show starts at 6:30. Tix are $20 at the gate. If you are wondering how many of The Temps are left from their prime years, that would be one and that would be Otis Williams, who has been with the band since 1958 when they were known as The Distants. Here's The Temptations doing "Ain't Too Proud To Beg" in 1966. Awesome dance moves!
Tonight's Late Night Pick is the Dukes of September Rhythm Revue which is led by Donald Fagen (Steely Dan), Boz Scaggs, and Michael McDonald (Doobie Brothers). They'll be on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on NBC at 12:35 AM. Doesn't look like the Dukes will be hitting up Richmond this year on what is becoming an annual summer tour, but you can catch them in Vienna VA at Wolf Trap.
More on the rest of the weekend tonight!

Supporting music in Richmond since 2000 - "Hello, my love, I heard a kiss from you / Red magic satin playing near, too / All through the morning rain I gaze, the sun doesn't shine / Rainbows and waterfalls run through my mind / In the garden, I see, west purple shower bells and tea / Orange birds and river cousins dressed in green / Pretty music, I hear, so happy and loud / Blue flowers echo from a cherry cloud" - The Brothers Johnson, “Strawberry Letter 23”
