Tonight, newgrass group Yonder Mountain String Band will wander to Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden for a show. This is part of the Groovin' in the Garden series. Gate opens at 5:30, show starts at 6. Children under 10 are free. Adults have to pay some price, probably around $20 but oddly since they removed the show from the "purchase tickets" area on the Groovin' web site, I can't tell you how much. Zach Deputy is opening the show and he's pretty good so get there early and check him out. Here's YMSB with Warren Haynes at Mountain Jam 2010:
Also, tonight at The National, St. Vincent and Shearwater will play. St. Vincent is neither a saint (though she may be very nice) nor named Vincent but is the pseudonym for Annie Clark (formerly of Polyphonic Spree) and her usually elegant, but sometimes flat-our rockin', pop music. Doors open at 7, show starts at 8 with Shearwater. Tix are $18 at the door. Here's a little mini-documentary on St. Vincent from Pitchfork along with some live footage.
Tonight's Late Night Pick is Pearl Jam's Stone Gossard playing with Shawn Smith tonight on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon at 12:35 AM on NBC.
Supporting music in Richmond since 2000 - "Hello, my love, I heard a kiss from you / Red magic satin playing near, too / All through the morning rain I gaze, the sun doesn't shine / Rainbows and waterfalls run through my mind / In the garden, I see, west purple shower bells and tea / Orange birds and river cousins dressed in green / Pretty music, I hear, so happy and loud / Blue flowers echo from a cherry cloud" - The Brothers Johnson, “Strawberry Letter 23”
