Supporting music in Richmond since 2000 - "Hello, my love, I heard a kiss from you / Red magic satin playing near, too / All through the morning rain I gaze, the sun doesn't shine / Rainbows and waterfalls run through my mind / In the garden, I see, west purple shower bells and tea / Orange birds and river cousins dressed in green / Pretty music, I hear, so happy and loud / Blue flowers echo from a cherry cloud" - The Brothers Johnson, “Strawberry Letter 23”

Weekend Picks: Leon Russell, Diarrhea Planet, Sheer Mag, Metric, Lucy Dacus

Tix are $12 advance, $15 day of show. These are Diarrhea Planet's interests, as listed on Facebook, "Not totally blowing it, getting our units up, saving lives, shredding til' you're dead, listening to Steely Dan/TEB (Third Eye Blind), sleeping bags, food." Here they are playing "Heatwave":
Friday night, rising Richmond star, Lucy Dacus has her album release party at The Broadberry. Rikki Shay (featuring former members of Black Girls) and Spooky Cool will join in the fun. Doors at 8. show at 9, tix are $8 advance, $10 at the door. She'll be at SXSW in two weeks along with every other band in the Western Hemisphere, but NPR has narrowed it down to 100 bands to hear and Lucy is one of them. To hear the NPR playlist of those 100 bands, click HERE. Here's Lucy at Hardywood in November playing "Troublemaker Doppelganger":
It's a punk rock Saturday night at Strange Matter. Actually Saturday evening as the doors open at 5 and the show will go no later than 9. Who's on the bill? Sheer Mag, Downtown Boys, Christi and Dazeases. Tix are $10 advance, $12 day of show. Here's Sheer Mag's "Fan the Flames":
The great Leon Russell is at The Tin Pan on Sunday night. Tix are $80 in advance, $85 at the door. It may seem a little pricey but remember that this is a very intimate venue that only holds 240 people. Doors open at 5, show starts at 7 with opener Jefferson Grizzard. Here's Leon back in 1980 when he collaborated with New Grass Revival.
Indie new wave pop/rockers Metric are at The National on Tuesday. Tix are $25 advance, $28 day of show. Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7:30 with Joywave opening. You might dig Metric if you dig Liz Phair, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Breeders, Blondie, Sonic Youth, or Missing Persons. Here's Metric's "The Shade":
That'll do it. I'll leave you with this really freaky video from Yeasayer. This is "I Am Chemistry":
Have a great weekend!
